This 3-day birdwatching tour is designed for nature lovers and birding enthusiasts eager to explore Ethiopia’s exceptional bird diversity. Ethiopia is home to more than 860 bird species, including many endemics found nowhere else in the world. The tour focuses on the Rift Valley lakes and nearby highland habitats, offering excellent opportunities to observe resident and migratory birds in their natural environments, guided by experienced local birding specialists.

Tour Plan

Depart Addis Ababa in the morning and drive to the Bishoftu crater lakes. Spend the day birdwatching around Lake Hora, Lake Kuriftu, and Lake Babogaya, known for water birds such as pelicans, herons, storks, and flamingos (seasonal). Overnight in Bishoftu.

After breakfast, continue south to the Rift Valley lakes. Explore Lake Ziway and surrounding wetlands, excellent habitats for kingfishers, fish eagles, cormorants, and migratory species. Afternoon birding along lakeshores and acacia woodlands. Overnight near Lake Langano or Ziway.

Morning birdwatching around the lake area and nearby grasslands, with chances to spot endemic species and raptors. After lunch, drive back to Addis Ababa, concluding the birdwatching tour.
