Simien Mountains: 3-Day “Roof of Africa” Trek

The Simien Mountains National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its dramatic escarpments, deep valleys, and unique wildlife. This 3-day trek is the perfect introduction to the “Roof of Africa.”

Included/Exclude

Transportation: All transfers in a private 4WD vehicle from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park and back to Gondar.
Expert Staff: Services of a certified professional English-speaking mountain guide, a park scout (mandatory), and a professional cook.
Logistics: Mules and muleteers to carry all camping equipment and heavy luggage (you only carry your daypack).
Accommodation: High-quality camping gear including waterproof tents and thick foam mattresses.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Gondar – Debark – Sankaber

Depart from the historic city of Gondar for a scenic drive to Debark to process park permits. The trek begins near the park gate, leading you through highland grasslands where you will likely encounter your first massive troop of Gelada Baboons. Overnight at Sankaber Camp ( $3,250$ m).

Day 2: Sankaber – Jinbar Falls – Geech

Trek along the northern escarpment with breathtaking views of the abyss. You will visit the spectacular Jinbar Waterfall, which plunges hundreds of meters into a deep canyon. Continue to Geech village for a traditional coffee ceremony before overnighting at Geech Camp ( $3,600$ m), surrounded by giant lobelia plants.

Day 3: Geech – Imet Gogo – Gondar

An early morning hike leads to Imet Gogo, widely considered the most spectacular viewpoint in the entire range, offering $360$ -degree views of the jagged peaks. After spotting the majestic Lammergeier vultures, you will descend to the road at Ambaras to meet your vehicle for the return drive to Gondar.
